As expected, the membership with Local 2020 of the United Steelworkers voted overwhelmingly to accept a new three-year deal with Xstrata Nickel.

The union represents 215 office, clerical and technical workers for Xstrata Nickel.

The membership voted 89 percent in favour of the deal Wednesday, which includes an $8,000 signing bonus, three percent wage increases in the first two years of the deal plus a cost of living allowance in the final year and improvements to pensions and benefits.

The deal was reached three hours before picket lines were scheduled to go up at 8 am Wednesday.
