Sudbury karate expert wins world championship

Justin Lanteigne, 15, a black belt in karate from Sudbury recently competed in the National Blackbelt League Super Grands World Championships in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and walked away a world champion.

Lanteigne came second in Traditional Weapons and acheived his World Championship in the 15 to 17 age category in Traditional Forms.  Lanteigne trains at Benoit's Martial Arts under the guidance of Shihan Don Benoit and Sensei Terry Benoit. 

Several other members of Benoit's Martial Arts Xtreme Team also attended the Championships and faired well.

Trevor Blanchard, sixth in traditional forms and ninth in open musical and traditional weapons; Alexis Nizzero, seventh in traditional weapons; Corey Black, sixth in traditional forms; Jordan Lanteigne, fifth in open forms; Sheila Grech, second in traditional forms and third in traditional forms (age group 35-plus).

Competing in the under black belt divisions was Sean Grech who came second in traditional forms and eighth in open musical forms.
