Since we last communicated, the Sunrisers have been extremely busy preparing for our fall and winter projects, not the least of which is our major fundraiser, Vive Le Vin.

The event is set for Nov. 15 at the Caruso Club, but more about that later in the article.

From Sept. 19-21, members of the Sunrisers and our sister club, the Rotary Club of Sudbury, attended at the Rotary District Conference in Val’Dor, Que.

In addition to participating in the business of the conference, our two clubs recruited Rotarians from clubs throughout the district to attend next year’s District Conference, which is being hosted in Sudbury next September.

We are expecting upwards of 250 delegates. Much more will be said about this event over the coming months.

The Sudbury clubs are proud to honour Lise Dutrisac, who will take on the job of district governor, effective July 2015.

Lise is a long-serving Rotarian with the Rotary Club of Sudbury and will bring a dynamic presence to the role of district governor.

At the district conference, she led our clubs in a presentation highlighting the City of Greater Sudbury.

Lise was a strong presence at the conference, and it was evident district members have a high level of respect for her.

We are all very proud to serve with her, and look forward to the 2015 conference in Sudbury.

Now, onto Vive Le Vin.

This year’s event is being held at the Caruso Club on Haig Street on Nov. 15, starting at 7 p.m. With wine tastings and food pairings, a silent auction and a reverse draw, raffles and dancing, the name of the game is fun.

More than fun, though, Vive Le Vin is also a fundraiser to help the club keep its commitment to the many charities and worthy community projects we help support.

Since 2012, the Sunrisers have contributed $74, 825 to worthwhile causes in the city, including Rotary Park, the Elgin Street Mission, KICX for Kids, Easter Seals and Angels in Pink, to name a few.

In addition, funds raised help us contribute to projects overseas through Rotary International. In the past two years, we have committed $14, 177 to projects like the India water project and the Cambodia bicycle project.

The vast majority of the $107,611 brought in since 2012 stays in the community.

At Vive Le Vin, you can help us make that number grow and help the community, while having a great time.

Tickets are $125 and can be obtained from any Sunrisers member or by dialing 705-690-1207.
