Jack Layton's son backs Shawbonquit in Sudbury race

After spending the weekend with Suzanne Shawbonquit and knocking on doors for the NDP campaign, I can tell you my dad would have been very proud to come up here and stand by Suzanne’s side. Suzanne is an extraordinary person and incredible candidate.

After spending the weekend with Suzanne Shawbonquit and knocking on doors for the NDP campaign, I can tell you my dad would have been very proud to come up here and stand by Suzanne’s side.

Suzanne is an extraordinary person and incredible candidate. She will fight for Northern jobs, for better health care here in Sudbury, and to make life more affordable for everyone who lives here.

In recent comments about why he left the NDP, Liberal candidate Glenn Thibeault made it clear he wants to trade on my dad's name and say the party has changed.

My message to him, from a Layton to a Thibeault, is that it is the NDP that speaks up for people. It is New Democrats in the North and across Ontario who fight for people. No matter how many times Liberals try to cheapen it, it’s New Democrats who believe that love is better than anger, and hope is better than fear.

Yet, the Liberals don’t want to listen. They don’t understand that politics is about serving people with integrity, not shortcuts to power. Suzanne gets that, and I think my dad would agree; she epitomizes the very best of what it means to be an elected representative.

Suzanne is the right candidate for this race and the right person to represent Sudbury. If elected, Suzanne would join an amazing group of Northern NDP MPPs who fight against the Liberals’ backroom deals and broken promises to ensure the people of the North have the voice they deserve.

On February 5, vote for Suzanne Shawbonquit and prove that we don’t have to put up with old-style cynical political games. Politics can be different.

By electing Suzanne, Sudbury can have the honest, trustworthy and dependable representative you deserve.
