Re: Article “‘We need tax revenues for things our citizens are demanding,’” in Aug. 3 edition of Northern Life

So (Mayor John Rodriguez) has taken it upon himself (to make) the decision to not purchase (the former St. Joseph’s Health Centre site). May I ask who gave him this authority to act alone as dictators do, and ignore all his council, who we all elected? What is the matter with this man’s thinking?

Mr. Mayor knew the city should have purchased this property. We all have known (this) for the last 10 years. The city had years to have a solid plan in place with financing and (an) end use for (the building) years ago.

What does the mayor do? (He took it) upon himself to say “No, I can’t burden my humble citizens with this purchase,” so he let it go, ignoring all of our elected councillors. He should be ashamed of himself.

Our councillors should all resign, as the mayor is doing what he wants. I guess he is still feeling bitter from losing his vote on the Arts Centre that no one wants but him. The centre has a cost of about $150 million, but that’s not burdening his citizens. This man is a complete joke.

The (St. Joseph’s) site should have been purchased by the city, and in partnership with private industry, a 400 to 600 unit long-term care facility (should be built) for our seniors. What better spot for them to spend their final years?

We owe our seniors for building this community to what it is today.

Mr. Mayor, do the honourable thing and resign now. Barring that, at the next council meeting, all the councillors should have a motion on floor requesting he resign.

  • People really need to move past this hospital sale. Its done, move on. Elections aren't that far off, just don't vote for JRod.

  • Why dont we hold a recall election and have our mayor fired. All it takes is a petition with the signatures of 10% of the population of each ward.
