Editor’s note: Nickel Belt MPP France Gélinas originally sent this letter to the province’s chief medical officer of health, Dr. Arlene King.

I am writing to request your guidance on an important public health issue. I have heard from many parents who are increasingly alarmed by the symptoms experienced by their children who are exposed, for extensive periods of time, to microwave radiation from wireless technology present in their schools.

There are so many cases of anecdotal evidence from school aged children complaining about headaches, loss of balance, problems with fine motor skills and other neurological effects after their school becomes Wi-Fi, that I believe it warrants further investigation.

Specifically, I am asking for the expertise and resources available through your office to complete a literary review of the scientific evidence of the health and biological effects from widespread Wi-Fi exposure.

As well, I would like your office to give clear public health guidelines for exposure to Wi-Fi technology for different age groups, including school aged children.

I believe your review of this important and timely public health issue will go a long way in helping to clarify and inform parents and public administrators who have serious concerns. I look forward to your response without delay.

France Gélinas

  • I have anecdotal proof that politicians who continually bable nonsense to get their name in the press is bad for everyones health.

  • I meant IEEE802.11 (forgot an 'E')

  • @joy_3 - I'd hate to break it to you, but IEE802.11 standard (the 'WiFi' as most people know it today) operate in the 2.4GHz bandwidth. You know what else runs on that bandwidth range, cordless phones, microwave ovens, bluetooth, and long list of other items. People have been using cordless phone in their house for many years and I'm sure the kids have one glued to their ear most of the time at home (assuming they aren't surfing the 'net on their laptops wirelessly - lol). Same bandwidth, means same effect, yet the kiddos are fine.

Motorboat is right, France is taking up every crackpot cause that comes her way.

  • Alot of long term research has not been put into WiFi and alternate energy sources in schools that may be affecting our young ones. It makes sense that new innovations may be causing unheard of side effects in our children and studies are needed now not tomorrow. These parents are concerned as they should be. Keep up the pressure France, we count on your health background to keep up the momentum.

  • France takes up every crackpot cause that comes her way without having any kind of data or proof to back up her claims.

So far she is one of the most useless politicians i have ever seen.

  • WiFi is making your kids sick in school? Your proof is that they kids only seem to be sick when they go to school? This is total B.S. those kids that are subjected to WiFi for long period while at school, probably have a WiFi router sitting at home while they eat, sleep, and play, or WiFi routers at their friends houses, or stores they frequent. WiFi is all around us, ignorance is bliss I suppose.

But wait they aren't sick at home... hmmm.. maybe the SCHOOL thing has something to do with it.

    *rolls eyes*
