Speeding on side streets concerns reader - Lorne Johnson

As we all know, many Sudbury families are getting their children ready for the upcoming return to school after the Labour Day long weekend.

Yet their children could be at risk of being hurt or even being killed by speeding cars flying down city side streets.

Charlotte Street has seen the numbers of speeding cars go up quite a bit over the summer months. We have a lot of young families and their children living on this street. The street is only a quarter mile long, yet at any time of the day or night, we see and hear cars flying down this road.

Charlotte Street is a side street, and the speed limit is 30 km/hr. Yet (vehicles) are going 60 km/h or even faster.
When are the police going to pass out speeding tickets to the many people who speed on city side streets? (Speeders) risk not only their safety, they risk the public’s overall safety.

I would hate to see or hear that a child was killed by a mindless driver who was in a hurry. This needless speeding has to stop on all city side streets. I truly hope (Greater Sudbury Police) take this issue to heart, as some (police officers) have grandchildren as well.
