Re: Article “Games outrun hotel space,” in the Aug. 10 edition of Northern Life.

It is ridiculous. My friends have to travel to Sturgeon (Falls) for a motel room. Accommodations for the (Ontario Summer Games) in Sudbury are almost non-existent.

The games organizers must have known that we didn’t have enough motel rooms for the Ontario Games. They shouldn’t have bid for this event, knowing about the room shortfall.

  • I can understand the frustration but I've been to larger cities that completly sell out...it happens...book early enough or become creative.
I think the added traffic to our local businesses was much needed.

  • Sturgeon Falls isn't that far. So scrap the games because your friends had to stay out of town. Why not house them yourself. Many Sudburians offered up rooms in their homes to help out. I've been to Hockey tournaments in Toronto were the closest place I can get a hotel is in Barrie, it isn't a big deal. Were you expecting Sudbury to build some hotels that really aren't needed on a regular basis.
