Re: Letter “Mayor should resign in wake of hospital sale,” which appeared in the Aug. 17 edition of Northern Life.
Why would the letter writer suggest that Mayor John Rodriguez resign over (the sale of the former St. Joseph’s Health Centre site)? The sale of the hospital was good for Sudbury. The one thing we need is more tax revenue.

The cost to the ratepayer (of buying the hospital would be) great. After (the former hospital) is refurbished, it will provide and annual income to help reduce the taxes we pay.

I believe that John Rodriguez is trying to develop a greater tax base paid by commercial rate payers to help reduce taxes for the average ratepayer.

It is my hope that we elect people who are prepared to utilize the empty buildings for the benefit of the city.

I worry that people who use sarcasm, as the writer did, will create roadblocks to private development for political reasons rather than common sense.

The least the writer could do is congratulate Mayor John for utilizing the feds’ grants for the many refit public works and renovations that will make the City of Greater Sudbury a place to invest in new business.
