Re: Ernie Checkeris’ letter “Hospital sale good for municipal tax base,” which appeared in the Sept. 2 edition of Northern Life.

I agree with Ernie on this subject and his recognition of this mayor’s efforts.

We in Sudbury have been fortunate with our recent line of civic leaders.

As mayors, they may be not have always done the right thing in our eyes, but as individuals their personal integrity has been beyond question.

We old timers know it has not always been so. Sudbury needs someone with the foresight and fortitude to think beyond potholes and to carry through with the projects this city really needs.

John Rodriguez has proven that he, unlike too many of today’s politicians, has that capacity and capability. We know that with him, Sudbury comes first.

So I say to our mayor, “Keep in good health. Ignore the chronic naysayers, and the so called tax saving flim flam artists. Who knows? In your second term those naysayers may take a deeper look and decide that a ride on your bus is really not that expensive in the long run.”

We need to keep reminding ourselves, prudent is good, and cheap is, well, just cheap, and sometimes can be counterproductive.
