Our vendors, performers and festival-goers alike say that this one of the best outdoor festivals that they attend and participate in.
On behalf of the 13th annual Original Canadian Garlic Festival, thank you to the community of Sudbury and area for supporting this year’s festival.
Although the skies were gray with scattered showers, it did not dampen the spirit of the capacity crowd who attended, many who are repeat visitors from near and far. The highlight, aside from the scrumptious garlic-laced nibblers of course, was the display of our rich Ukrainian culture, with a variety of Ukrainian dances performed by the Zorya dancers from Thunder Bay, the Ukrainian National Federal School of Dance groups and St. Mary’s Ukrainian Dance Ensemble Nasha Royna, as well as the performances by Sudbury’s talented local entertainers.
Our community event is only possible through the continued support of our loyal partner sponsors, the City of Greater Sudbury, our media friends, the fantastic local entertainers and the dedicated volunteers. Also thank you to the road construction crew for their co-operation.
Notable achievements initiated by our organization include the development of the Ukrainian Seniors’ Centre, Hnatyshyn Park, the Altanka and Barvinok Gardens, the Barvinok-on-the-Park Continuum of Care facility, contributions to the Ukrainian Seniors’ Fund through the Sudbury Community Foundation and the hiring of summer students.
All the organizing and food preparation is the result of countless hours of volunteering. Our seniors are remarkable and an inspiration to the entire community. The seniors make me very proud of my Ukrainian heritage, and I am honoured to be part of this dynamic organization.
We are the proud recipients of Sudbury Tourism’s “Invite the World” 2009 award. Community events like the Original Canadian Garlic Festival are just one reason why Sudbury is such a great place to call home.
