Time to put the ‘eco’ in economy - Sandor Kuthy

Almost every industrialized nation in the world is struggling with the pain of unemployment, and there is no end in sight. The only solution recommended so far is bailouts.

Instead of creating new jobs, governments are struggling to avoid bankruptcy. In my opinion, we need to develop a radical change, and develop a new economy world wide. The capitalist system is destroying itself by advocating growth of the population, and the GNP to create jobs.

But our population is already seven billion, and we will run out of the natural resources needed to sustain the economy.

Europe is completely different. Their social programs have become too expensive, and their excess demands eroded their finances.

Canada is in a better position because of our abundant natural resources, and a well-established health care system.

But that alone is not sufficient to create new jobs for the future. Any of our trading partners could go into a recession, which is very likely. To create new jobs, we need to develop and finance a new “eco-economy” in harmony with the environment.

Today, most nations are set on a self-destructive economic path. We can create this new economy in Canada by abolishing the Senate and creating a forum for the environment, bringing together scientists, entrepreneurs, planners, and other experts.

Declare their mandate to deal with a national emergency, and give them priority in decision-making. They would recommend the needed action to the provinces, and have a budget to finance their recommendations.

We will call it “an investment for the future.” The jobs created will be permanent. This forum will also represent Canada on the world stage, and become a leader for other nations to follow. After all, it is a global affair.

  • Sandor ... specifically what jobs?

Give some examples. You are talking about motherhood and apple pie.

The article is simply too vague.
