Here in Azilda we have a councillor who is working extremely hard at trying to change the old-fashioned way of doing things at city hall.
We have never seen a councillor work so hard for a part-time salary. Whoever said councillors are overpaid does not know this councillor. Her telephone does not stop ringing.
Evelyn (Dustrisac) has a master’s degree in theology, and her heart is in every issue.
If you have a problem with getting a doctor, call her and she will refer you to one. If you have someone involved in drugs, she will make calls to help you. If you have problems of any type involving dealing with the city, she will try to help you. She always returns her calls.
Evelyn Dutrisac works full time trying to change things at city hall. She is trying to make changes to the Official Plan, involving farmers, rural owners and lakeside property owners.
She studies and learns the issues and understands the frustrations of the residents. She is continuously trying to get the staff to change their outdated views.
The Official Plan is not updated, and what was good 10 years ago is not necessarily what should be today. The concerns of residents of all “Greater” Sudbury, not just the old city, should be taken into consideration.
The new mayor states she wants to make changes. Well, we don’t see this, as she does not seem to support any of the changes.
She does not work with the councillors, and why? I can’t see her getting reelected if she does not start “driving the bus” and working with the councillors.
As for the slush fund, Evelyn started the Keep them Warm Program in Sudbury and in Rayside Balfour. One hundred fifty seven disadvantaged children this year went shopping with volunteers, and at least $100 was spent per child for new warm clothes.
The park in the Berthiaume Subdivision, the St. Gabriel Centre, the Let Them be Kids park and renovations to other parks in Azilda, the new library, and numerous endeavours she supported are all winners of her time and “slush fund.”
The Donovan residents will also applaud her efforts, as word on the street is that the Donovan is changing, and it is in large part due to the efforts of Evelyn Dutrisac, the greatest councillor we have seen.
Some naysayers might not agree with what is stated here, so this is a challenge to get involved and look into what your councillors are doing and support them.
By the way, why was city hall closed at 2 p.m. on the Friday before Christmas? No other business was. Christmas was on Sunday, wasn’t it? Another perk for the city staff? Where was the mayor there?
