Why are patients being sent out of town? - Roger Moffatt

I have a question about our hospital. The one that we went millions overbudget to expand.

The question is, why is it that to have surgery done I must go out of town — to North Bay or Sault Ste. Marie, or to southern Ontario. All I need is a referral.

Don’t blame the old people, because the whole province has old people.

  • You need to go out of town because Rick Bartolucci said he would never turn the Hospital into a Nursing Home. Yet 100 ALC patients are in the Hospital waiting in $1,200/day beds until Rick kicks in $45/day in Home supports.

  • Because the hospital did not stick to the original plan of 12 floors on the south wing and more O.Rs. Surgeons know to stay away from Sudbury, because the booking staff make new surgeon's life miserable here. They cater to the long time surgeons, and drive away the new ones by bumping their OR times.
