I am hoping and praying that a special woman recognizes herself in this story.

On Jan. 27, I was having breakfast in Gloria’s Restaurant at Regent and Bouchard. I saw a couple come in and sit down across the room.

They were about the same age as myself — mid to late 60s. The gentleman was wearing a cowboy hat. Shortly after, the woman stood up and came over to my table. Initially, I wondered if she might have thought she recognized me, but that wasn’t the case.

She had come over to comment on the fact we were wearing virtually the same top. She said she had made hers many years ago, and didn’t think she could do it anymore. We said we liked the colour, and I congratulated her on making a top that lasted this long and still looked pretty new.

Then, as she was about to take her leave, she touched my arm and said “Now you go and enjoy this wonderfully glorious day God is giving you, and all God’s blessings to you.” She turned and walked away.

What she could not have known was how timely and comforting her words were. It took me a few minutes to completely process what had just happened.

When I got up to leave, I went over to their table and said “I don’t know if it was really because of the colour we were both wearing or if you got an almighty nudge, but you gave me the words I needed to believe that all would go well today. I am here from the Sault with my husband, and he is having a heart procedure today.”

I think I’ll keep her next words private, as her gift to me. So, if you are this wonderful lady, please know all was well, and we are now home.

When I got to the hospital and told my husband the story, his eyes filled with tears, and he just nodded.

I wanted to thank you, so if you go to Gloria’s Restaurant, ask for Brenda, tell her who you are and she has a small card of thanks for you.

For everybody else reading this letter, we are told we encounter angels every day unaware. I hope you recognize the ones you encounter, as I did mine.

And if you get the sudden urge to go up to a stranger and speak to them, please remember this story and how your words might be what that fellow human being really needs to hear at that moment.
