Seniors’ symposium informative, worthwhile - Isadore Paolin

I was very appreciative of Vale and the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors program for making the Seniors’ Symposium event, held on May 4,at the Caruso Club, possible.

Undoubtedly, like myself, many in attendance (seniors, caregivers and families) had many of their concerns addressed.

The visual displays that I viewed were well organized with related handouts readily available. Speakers were most pleasant and very knowledgeable in their respective fields. Topics were suited for the intended audience.

It was a learning experience for myself, and I am sure for many others in attendance. Organizers are to be congratulated in this respect.

However, I was disappointed to see that many of the display booths had been removed prior to the scheduled 6 p.m. closing time. I was informed by the remaining exhibitors that it was a slow day so some felt “why stay.”

Personally, I believe that Friday, and the time, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., may have been inconvenient for some.

You may ask why. Many family members and caregivers would not be able to attend or transport interested seniors due to the fact they may have regular day jobs. Others may have had prior family weekend commitments since this event was held on Friday.

Again, hats off to all organizers, sponsors and exhibitors for a most informative and enjoyable day.
