Boats putting Ramsey swimmers in danger - Michael Corelli

I love to go to the beach. I love to swim in Ramsey. But now it’s like playing frogger with the boats and jet skis that are flying down Ramsey.

I am sure I am not alone in seeing boats and jet skis coming dangerously close to the shore across the stretch of the boardwalk. And the danger escalates when you kayak or canoe.

Last Saturday, a black boat screamed down the shore line from the main beach to the amphitheatre. If any person was out swimming they would have been severely hurt.

So why can’t we make a compromise and work together?
I would love to see the city set up the dragon boat markers, or any marker out about 50 to 75 feet, stretching from the Canoe Club to the sail boat house, where boats cannot come in without being severely fined.

That will allow people who like to snorkel or swim not to worry about getting a prop in the face.

Also why are police boats never seen on Ramsey? Some of the antics of the jet skis need to be investigated. I saw drag races and people playing chicken. One time four jet skis landed on the shore of the main beach.

I think it’s maybe time to have a referendum on the next election to see how people feel about the ban of recreational vehicles on the lake.

It’s our drinking water and our play area. I would hate to see it be destroyed.
