It’s ok to say ‘yes’ to panhandlers - Viv Hnatiuk

A while ago, I stood at the bus station and watched a man walk from various people asking for change. He was given nothing. It was winter and he looked cold and tired.

When he reached me, he asked for 35 cents. I gave him the 35 cents and offered the extra change I pulled from my pocket, but he declined.

He walked about 10 feet away from me and turned back. He walked towards me and asked if he could give me a hug. He explained that he was short bus fare and was trying to get home. He had been asking for change for almost an hour and was so thankful for my generosity.

I was glad I could help out. I would like to think if I had been in the same situation that someone would be able to help me out.

When you give a gift it is no longer yours. People can do whatever they want with the gift you’ve given because it then becomes theirs.
It is up to you to do what you want with what you have. The choice should be yours.
