Ever since this company has shown interest in the Ring of Fire located up north, and wanting to come to Capreol to smelt this chromium, I have become a very concerned citizen of Sudbury.
The film Erin Brockovich is not a work of fiction. This film deals with the chemical compound Chromium 6, which will be the result of the smelting of Chromium 3 at the Capreol plant.
I urge everyone living in these areas to watch this film, and to read up on Chromium 6 so everyone is aware of its effects on humans, on water resources and the natural environment.
I know that many people need jobs in this province, but is it worth the health of our people, our water, and our environment.
I wrote to Erin Brockovich and I quote her answer, “I am very sorry to hear about this situation. A good point would be to gather the community together and get a petition going, then rally the relevant authorities.”
The film deals with all of these things. I am sure we do not want to leave our children, our environment, our lakes and our beautiful northern communities in danger.
We and our communities have much more power if we stand together. I am so relieved that Homer Seguin and Elie Martel have a committee going to “hold the company’s and the government’s feet to the fire on the issue of environmental health and safety.”
I know that you are all aware of this project. What I am hoping and praying for is that all the “i’s” and “t’s” will be dotted and crossed before anything is done.
Do not let the government or anyone in authority let this project go ahead without everything being studied and having our total approval on this project.
