Downtown casino will hurt families - Elsie Ranger

Re: Letter “Reader unimpressed with casino meeting,” which appeared in the Oct. 23 edition of Northern Life.

I wish to give two thumbs up to the letter written by Jeanne Leclair-Gunter in Tuesday’s edition of your paper.

In the last two paragraphs of the letter, the real aspects of this situation are addressed.

Building this facility within the city centre will do more to wreck lives than any other activity that governments, both provincial and municipal, have ever initiated.

There is, as stated in the letter, the loss of jobs, and the break-up of families for example, due to gambling being made so easily available even to those who can’t afford to own or run a car.

Loss of jobs at the racing facility, and other catastrophic events, will follow.

I wonder what the people who are trying to help those addicted to gambling think of this idea?

Please come to your senses and leave the facility where it is presently located. There is enough misery to go round without enabling more.
