As the Christmas season rolls around once again, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the city councillors who voted against opening stores in Sudbury on Boxing Day.

As the daughter of a parent who works in retail, I greatly appreciate the extra day off to spend quality time with my family.

Over the past 20 years, my dad has organized an annual skate on Boxing Day, and if stores were to be open, this family tradition would most likely be a thing of the past.

With that said, I wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, and thank you once again for realizing the importance of family.
