Why was auditor general put on one-year terms? - Dan Melanson

Re: Article “Auditor general on a short leash,” which appeared in the Jan. 1 edition of Northern Life.

Since the original bylaw that was passed allowed for three-and-a-half years of funding with an additional three years of funding as an option for the Auditor General’s office, and Mr. Bigger’s original employment contract was for three-and-a-half years, the question is why has council now decide to renew Mr. Bigger's contract on a yearly basis.

While I think everyone can appreciate the need for privacy with regards to the auditor general’s personal employment contract, by changing the term to a yearly one in the absence of a valid reason to do so gives rise to rampant speculation as to the motive behind this change.

I’m not interested in speculation or theories or what was said by whom. What I, and, I suspect, a large part of the citizenry of Greater Sudbury want to know is why?

It’s a very simple question and one that needs to be answered by those members of council who voted to make this change. So let’s not get distracted by theories and speculation let everyone simply ask the same question — why?

Phone, email or write to the councillors and mayor and ask them that very powerful one-word question — why?
