Are seniors disposable? - Peggy Bell

Being an advocate for senior citizens, I believe a new form of elder abuse is on the rise.

For the life of me, I cannot understand why so many special needs groups in the younger generations are given priority treatment over our much-deserving seniors.

These special needs groups, just to name a couple, are comprised of those receiving social assistance and disability support.

These groups are provided dental coverage, eye glass coverage, hearing aid devices and many more government-paid-for prescriptions.

Seniors living on a minimal government Old Age Security and CPP must pay out-of-pocket for most of these necessary services, which are especially needed as they age.

I’m not saying these special needs people deserve any less, but seniors should be cared for as well as they are.

Is this group of Canadian seniors now being considered “The Disposable Society” as they age? This sure seems to be the way it is.
