Horses’ fate upsets reader - Sajidha Bagha

Re: Article “More horses than market,” which appeared in the Feb. 7 edition of Northern Life.

Horrified is not the right word to describe how I feel towards the fate that awaits these poor creatures.

Since this has all come about because of the governments decision, the government should take responsibility and find a solution to prevent this gross injustice.

As Mahatma Ghandi said, “the greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way in which its animals are treated.”

I hold that the more helpless a creature, the more entitled it is to protection by man from the cruelty of man. Let us look at ourselves and our society in the light of his words of wisdom.
