Snowbanks present hazard for the elderly - Lionel Rudd

Went downtown yesterday — Wednesday. Great place to park. High snowbanks everywhere — frozen like concrete. Of course you cannot reach the parking meters because of the snowbanks.

One would think that with all the high-priced help at city hall, someone could figure that if these snow banks were cleared when they were fresh, the job would be easy and simple.

It is impossible to open a car door without parking nearly three feet from the curb.

For the elderly and disabled, these snowbanks render it almost impossible to park downtown. Yet there are the really brave souls who risk all in blizzards, freezing rain, wind chills at 40 below to hand out parking tickets.

At the same time, our taxes get ever higher and the city fires the only person who could give us hope — the ombudsman. No wonder they run for cover. The moral of the story is avoid the downtown. The businesses don’t need your money anyway.
