Ski championship a ‘great day’ - Greg A. Connor

On Feb. 13, Sudbury hosted the SDSSAA/NOSSA alpine skiing championship at Adanac ski hill. Close to 100 students participated. It was a great day for all the students.

Champions were crowned, some took some lumps, bruises and dashed egos, but all had fun. Some were participating in this type of event for the first time. Congratulations to all participants.

Many thanks need to go out to people that participated in getting this event off the ground, starting with Dan Bartolucci and his team, Dave Makela, Jeff Grieves and his team, who set up courses, the Canadian Ski Patrol, city ski hill staff and Bitter Bill’s canteen, who got food out in a timely manner.

There are also others that need to be thanked.

This includes coaches that wish they could have been there, but with the school situation, could not, principals and parents that helped out, and, most of all, the participants.

Thank you for doing this for the youth. You all should be proud of what was accomplished that day. Without all your support, this event would not have happened.

Good luck to all that advance to OFSSAA. Represent not just yourselves but your city and these people that helped get you there, because if they would not have done this, you would not be going to OFSSAA.
