Senate scandal tarnishing Canada’s reputation

Enough already with the Senate scandal! Let’s do something about it — like having a referendum vote to abolish the Senate in the next federal election.

In spite of their questionable arguments and protestations to save their pay and benefits, the fact is that our three embattled senators obviously cheated big-time, and for a long time, on their expenses, and they should suffer the usual consequences.

Nobody agrees to pay back six-figure amounts unless they know that it was ill-gotten. There is nothing in the rules that is “vague” about knowing where your principal residence is located, or charging taxpayers for travel that has nothing to do with Senate business.

As taxpayers, we deserve what we tolerate, and we definitely should not tolerate this kind of conduct from our appointed upper chamber representatives.

It’s time to abolish this needless, expensive reward to political cronies. We don’t need it and we can’t afford it. It is tarnishing Canada’s reputation world-wide.
