Councillors’ bear hunt concerns ridiculous

As a hunter (not a bear hunter), I was appalled at the comments made by some councillors about the approval of the spring bear hunt. Do they actually think hunters would not have to abide by the same licence and firearms discharge laws as they would for the fall hunt?

It is ridiculous to think that just because the spring season has reopened (we had one for many years) that now all of a sudden hunters will think they are allowed to shoot bears in the Flour Mill or Gatchell.

There are many areas within the City of Greater Sudbury where hunting is carried out both legally and safely every year and for various game.

I hope I speak for all hunters when I say thank you to Coun. Berthiaume for giving us credit for being smarter than that. Don’t waste our tax dollars on an information campaign, because we already know it is illegal and unsafe to hunt on Brebeuf Street at any time of the year.

The Ministry of Natural Resources will set out the season and boundaries just like they do for any other hunting season. Unbelievable.
