PSWs underpaid

I cannot believe how low the wages are for personal support workers — caregivers that are so vital to our well-being. Their earnings average about $15 an hour. It is a real shame that this necessary job is not recognized.

It is a real shame that this necessary job is not recognized. Many of the personal support workers I know are single mothers who have all the knowledge to become a nurse, but can’t afford the course because they need to support their family now.

I even met a couple of girls from Jamaica who were forced to live in a cold, dingy apartment because they couldn’t afford anything better.

Do these companies not realize how important it is for the disabled and seniors to be able to live in their own homes in dignity as long as possible?

I hope the health care system will recognize this downfall.
