With the lakes now clear of ice, this can be a frequent occurrence. The trapping of beavers is a consideration, however it is not long before those removed are replaced by others. It is said that there are more beavers now than when the first settlers arrived.
The only real solution is to wire wrap the trees you want protected. Chicken wire at least two feet high is generally sufficient, although some being more protective recommend wire fencing — green being the preferred colour.
Regardless of colour, the protection should be wire as this does seem to deter the toothy creatures. Ensure it is tied securely as there have been instances where beavers have just pulled down the wire protection.
