Letter: Sand buildup on streets causing flooding

During the last few days it’s been pretty wet in Sudbury and area. I’ve seen flooding on Algonquin Road and Worthington Crescent and Riverside Drive.

The reason for this isn’t excess precipitation, it is the streets lined with sand from the winter that still hasn’t been removed from main arteries, which block the sides of the streets and the storm drains.

The city has really failed on this front. Not only do we still have sand all over the roads, which inhibit water from draining into the storm sewer, we now have copious amounts of sand and dirt built up in our storm sewer infrastructure, which will now cost the city even more to remove from the system.

If they only picked up the sand when the snow melted, we wouldn’t be having these problems. Also, it’s a disgrace to the citizens to have to pay twice, and it looks awful on our streets.

I don’t really understand how the city operates, but I cannot see our mayor driving home from work and seeing the mounds of sand buildup and saying to herself “What a lovely pile of sand.” Clean our city streets.
