Peter’s guest was Chief Justice Beverley McLachlin. I came away with an impression of a person who is thoughtful, erudite and has a decent sense of humour.
Now considering the Ottawa brouhaha going on, I have seen Stephen Harper on screen many times. My first time, years ago, had my “old salesman’s eyes” determine that he is a marinonette. Over the years, we have seen that he is a truculent little boy.
Some time back, a Canadian judge ruled that by our Canadian Charter, we had to bring Omar Khadr back home from Guantanamo, as our U.S. neighbours had requested. Stephen Harper said no in all the media, and he said he would fight it in the courts. Interesting.
Years earlier, when the woman who ran the radioisotope facility indicated it was time to shut it down for maintenance, Stephen Harper argued with her publicly and finally fired her. No one told me he also had degrees in physics.
So now he is in a spat with the highest court in the land. Comparing him against Chief Justice McLachlin, should there be a dispute? Any sane person would say she is always correct, and his track record shows him to be ... wrong. Who would you trust?
