Letter: Don’t bring pets to fireworks displays

July 1 is fast approaching. That means time for fireworks celebrations.

Although my husband and I so enjoy these events, I have to say that we would enjoy them so much more if people did not bring their pets. Too often, we have seen dogs traumatized by the loudness of the fireworks and the hustling of the crowd, and all while the sky seems to be bursting apart.

We have seen dogs fleeing their owners, some being chased by people trying to capture them. Once, unfortunately, a dog also got hit by a car in his race to get away.

People please, please leave your pets at home if you plan to attend such types of events. These events are intended for people’s pleasure and not pets.

Enjoy the sights and sounds and then go home and enjoy your safe, sound pet.
