Today, the Greater Sudbury Police Service Rural Community Response Unit, the Traffic Management Unit and our Community Partners hosted our annual “Kids, Cops and Fishing” event.

Each of the 40 participating children were given a fishing rod, tackle box and other fishing paraphernalia to keep as their own.

Each child was transported from White Water Lake boat launch onto the lake and allowed to try their luck at catching the “big one.” The majority of the kids caught fish and then released them back into the water.

To round off the day, each child was treated to a barbeque.

This initiative had an incredibly positive impact on the children, as it allowed them to see officers as people. The children see the police care about them as individuals, not as potential young offenders.

The officers expressed very positive feedback relative to spending the day fishing with the kids. In closing, we would like to take this opportunity to thank our sponsors and all involved.
