Letter: Too pooped to scoop?

I recently brought our new dog on a walk around Fielding Park, a great spot of a bit of nature and a change of scenery from our neighbourhood.

We have been going there for years, especially when our kids were small, to feed the ducks, play on the playground equipment and walk with the kids around the path. Now that they are older, we haven’t gone as much, so it was a good opportunity to get out.

I was shocked. At the beginning of the park is a sign about pooping and scooping. It should be no surprise, as it is required in our neighbourhoods and most people carry the requisite equipment, a plastic bag.

Clearly, though, there must be some confusion on the part of dog owners. They pick up the offending poop in the colourful bags and leave them along the trail.

There are far too many of them for one to think that perhaps someone dropped their bag by mistake.

Is it too much to ask people to look after their pets responsibly? To leave the environment the way you found it for someone else to enjoy?

There are young kids, people with walkers, children who are learning to walk and others who would like to enjoy this facility. It is not a garbage dump, nor should you be leaving behind the leavings of your pet.

Use a bit of common sense please. If we do not look after these places, we will lose them.
