Over the next few weeks, young adults will be heading out to post-secondary institutions to gain the skills and knowledge necessary in becoming successful in their future careers and professions.
Thankfully, my parents raised my siblings and I as independent, motivated individuals who aim at chasing our dreams and be self-sufficient. As my parents continue to age, I assist them with difficult tasks and I do so with great pride.
Despite my siblings living out of town or out of the country, they support me through their words of encouragement and appreciation.
Sadly, not everyone has the goal of being self-sufficient, independent citizens.
The reason I wrote this letter is because I feel we are put on this earth to contribute our skills and talents to helping others.
My message to the youth of today: In order for you to be successful in life, follow your dreams, build them to their full potential — meaning motivation, independence and going to school — and not to rely on the earnings of your parents’ or loved ones’ dreams and ambitions.
Success is measured by your ability to put forth your own effort in order to achieve your aspirations. Most importantly, it is a moral imperative to genuinely provide care and respect to your loved ones, without expecting anything in return.
I wish you the very best as you chase your dreams. I hope this letter will serve as a lesson to never let greed consume you. It’s not worth it.
Work hard, be the best person you can be and success will come to you.
