Letter: Organ donation group grateful for support

On behalf of the Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Committee of the Irish Heritage Club of Sudbury,I wish to thank Northern Life for its ongoing support of organ and tissue donation awareness in the City of Greater Sudbury.

On behalf of the Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Committee of the Irish Heritage Club of Sudbury,I wish to thank Northern Life for its ongoing support of organ and tissue donation awareness in the City of Greater Sudbury.

I would especially like to mention Jonathan Migneault’s articles on organ donation, and the front page photograph in the July 29 edition of your newspaper taken at our 15th Annual Michael O’Reilly Walk for a Second Chance, held July 27.

Our walk was a great success with approximately 600 people participating, and of this total 227 went online and registered to be new organ donors. At 49 per cent, the city has one of the highest percentage rates of registered donors in the province.

Lively is No. 1 with 53 per cent, followed by Garson and Hanmer at 52 per cent and Val Caron at 51 per cent.

I would also like to express our many thanks to Gerry Lougheed Jr. for his generosity and financial support, without which the walk would not have taken place.

Again, our committee’s many thanks to Northern Life, and we urge those of your readers who have not as yet registered to be an organ donor, to go online and do so at BeAdonor.ca.

Mel O’Reilly,

Greater Sudbury
