Letter: Sudbury needs representation, candidate says

On Aug.
On Aug. 28, Michael Gravelle, minister of Northern Development and Mines, announced that the corporation charged with ensuring the infrastructure required to support the Ring of Fire mining project had been legally incorporated with four senior public servants appointed as its interim board of directors.

The minister was clear that the next task is to identify and recruit business and First Nations leaders, along with representation from the federal government, to the table.

I implore Mayor Marianne Matichuk to call an immediate meeting of our area leaders from the business and First Nations communities to develop a slate of qualified persons as candidates for consideration to the board.

I believe it is essential that we be at this table now as the planning begins for the historic development of this mining project. This project will impact Northern Ontario’s economy for generations to come — we must be at the table to participate in the building of its foundation.

Please act now before Sudbury is left on the outside looking in.
