Letter: Keep Second Ave. discussion going

The provincial Environmental Approvals Branch of the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change office informed me Aug.
The provincial Environmental Approvals Branch of the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change office informed me Aug. 28 the City of Greater Sudbury is in the process of sending the MOE the presentation material and summary of the public information consultations concerning the Second Avenue road construction project.

The MOE also informed me that the MOE project evaluator is currently discussing next steps with the city. This is positive news. Everyone agrees that Second Avenue is in urgent need for an improved facelift — the sooner the better.

It is now up to the city staff to respond to the MOE in a timely and efficient manner. The sooner city staff follow the guidance of the MOE, the sooner the project can be put to tender and the sooner the construction work can begin.

On Aug. 14, city staff said they hoped to start the drainage excavations through Adamsdale Playground this fall. Summer playground programs are over and the winter programs have not started, meaning minimal disruption to the playground usage.

Every resident of the City of Greater Sudbury is encouraged to contact their ward councillor to urge city staff to respond to the MOE and keep the discussions going forward.

Residents are also encouraged to talk to the municipal election candidates.

Ask them about their position on city priorities, affordablity of city projects, minimizing risks to our drinking water and our lakes, improving traffic flow, safety for pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles. We speak with our vote.
