Letter: Bouchard speed bumps unnecessary

I am asking the City of Greater Sudbury to re-consider their decision to put speed bumps at the Bouchard Street and Marcel Street intersection.
I am asking the City of Greater Sudbury to re-consider their decision to put speed bumps at the Bouchard Street and Marcel Street intersection.

I know there was a survey done and the majority of responders wanted see speed bumps rather than stop signs. Now that people have gotten used to the stop signs, I believe that the citizens would respond differently today.

- The stop signs are working out just fine. Ask yourself if removing these is a good investment of tax dollars.

- The 4-way stop allows all drivers to get on or off Marcel Street and Bouchard Street in a safe manner.

- Pedestrians can cross Marcel Street and Bouchard Street at the intersection in a safe manner.

- Drivers have slowed down considerably when driving on Bouchard.

- Stop signs do not encumber snow plows.

When the stop signs were first introduced, there were some unhappy citizens, but please keep in mind that at about the same time these stop signs were put in, the silly turnarounds on Southview Drive were being removed and lights and road work were being done on Kelly Lake Road and Copper Street. All of this already had drivers frustrated.

Since then, we have had to endure repairs done to the bridge on Bouchard and major work has been done on Bouchard and Regent Street to replace water and gas lines. These repairs were necessary and we will not complain about them.

The turnaround and speed control islands that were on Southview Drive were obviously a waste of money times two since they have now been removed. Why are you even thinking that it would be a good idea on Bouchard Street?

I assure you, the suggested speed bumps on Marcel Street and Bouchard Street are a waste of our tax dollars. Please take 20 minutes of your time, stand at the intersection of concern and see for yourselves that there is not a problem to fix. All is good.

Last but not least, if you do have that much money to throw away, how about compensating the businesses on the street for loss of revenue while you tear up our streets once again.
