Letter: Have some respect for election candidates

There’s a prelude of fall colours out there with “vote for me” signs hoarding strategic street corners, increasing the buzz for this upcoming fall municipal election.
There’s a prelude of fall colours out there with “vote for me” signs hoarding strategic street corners, increasing the buzz for this upcoming fall municipal election.

But I do wish to shed some light on all those who have put forth their names for mayor, school trustee and city councillor. Don’t think for a moment that any of these positions are glamourous.

The individuals who have assumed these positions past and present, and those vying to successfully fill the sought-after positions, all have something in common.

They all have families of varying aged children and senior family members, they all work full time at some other job, they all have certain skill sets to bring to the table, they are all Sudburians, they love their community and they personally and professionally believe they have a contribution to make to the community in the respective roles they ardently seek.

All these individuals are responsible people who do have a contribution to make individually and collectively, as they will be working as a team.

The long hours invested in committee meetings, attending events as city representatives, answering concerns from community members, participating in northern strategies and making decisions to keep Northern Ontario strong, and assuring they get fair representation from Queen’s Park and The Hill are just a part of the calling.

They have all rallied a campaign team, raised funds and pulled together a platform on which they stand.

So when you look at a name on a sign, look good and hard, for these individuals have all taken a stand and have come forward and ask you as Sudburians to at least take the time to read and discuss the various platforms with family and friends, and to come out to vote on election day, Oct. 27.

It’s the least you can do, as it really does take a lot to put a name on an election sign.
