Letter: Southview calming efforts too costly

A few years ago, the city erected radar signs on Southview Drive to notify drivers that they were exceeding the 50 kilometre per hour speed limit.

We don’t have any figures on the extent of violations, nor did we see it backed up with actual enforcement.

Then we saw a reconfiguration of curbs on an already curvy road with the installation of a monstrous “traffic calming circle.” One year later, the circle was pulled out and the road was paved, much to public relief.

Now, within a few hundred feet, witness four “speed bumps” which I am told will be pulled out each winter to facilitate snow plowing.

The citizens of Sudbury can’t afford to fund these ridiculous efforts to solve a problem that could be solved with some good old enforcement.

Southview Drive is a major artery for vehicles travelling from Chelmsford, Azilda, Copper Cliff, etc., to the South End, with no alternate route.

If the speed is too high on the street, reduce it to 40 kilometres per hour. Enough of squandering tax dollars.
