Letter: Despite cancelled ride, hospice event still raises $24K

On Aug. 16, Maison Vale Hospice and Desjardins were set to host the sixth annual Wheels for Hospice, a motorcycle ride around the City of Greater Sudbury, to raise awareness and funds for our community residential hospice.

On Aug. 16, Maison Vale Hospice and Desjardins were set to host the sixth annual Wheels for Hospice, a motorcycle ride around the City of Greater Sudbury, to raise awareness and funds for our community residential hospice.

Due to heavy rainfall at the time of departure, organizers decided to cancel the ride.

Event organizers and sponsors had originally hoped to reschedule the ride, but poor weather conditions in September, as well as other community events, made it difficult to find another date.

Despite the cancellation of the event, participants still came out to A&W to deliver their pledge and registration fees.

More than 35 people joined us at A&W on Long Lake Road to enjoy a warm, delicious breakfast.

After receiving all of the pledges, registration fees, and sponsorships, I am happy to announce the event still brought in more than $24,000 in support of the hospice programs and services.

We look forward to seeing all of the riders at next year’s ride, scheduled for Aug. 15.
