Letter: Deregulating store hours dishonest move

It’s amazing how dishonest politicians become once they are elected to political office. For the past several months we’ve been hearing over and over again these famous words — honesty, transparency and accountability.
It’s amazing how dishonest politicians become once they are elected to political office.

For the past several months we’ve been hearing over and over again these famous words — honesty, transparency and accountability.

The referendum planned by the previous council for the past two years stated clearly that 50 per cent of the voters must cast their ballots to deregulate the store hours. Only 48 per cent of citizens did.

During the first meeting of the new council, no one was allowed to speak at the council meeting either for or against store hours. Mr. Bigger calls this democracy.

Some stores will be opening 24 hours. What about bus service? Have there been any discussions regarding part-time workers, who are mostly students and single mothers, travelling to and from work at odd hours of the night.

Have there been any discussions with the police chief to increase patrolling the streets for the protection of our citizens?

Honesty, transparency and accountability? Voters in Sudbury have become phlegmatic and passive during municipal elections. They have lost faith with our municipal politicians and demonstrated this with the low turnout at the polls.
