Letter: Federal Liberals controlling on abortion issue

In his Jan.
In his Jan. 20 letter, Gerry Guimond, a nomination candidate for the federal Liberal party in Nickel Belt, claims our current Conservative federal government is running the country only for their “20 per cent Conservative base,” in contrast to the Liberal party, which would govern for all Canadians.

Liberal leader Justin Trudeau gave us an excellent preview of what governing for all Canadians would look like with him when in May 2014, he declared that all Liberal MPs, current and future, must vote along “pro-choice” lines on any issues pertaining to abortion which should happen to arise in the legislature, regardless of the wishes of their constituents or their own consciences.

Wherever you stand on abortion, Trudeau’s policy – which largely silences and disenfranchises the significant number of Canadians who hold pro-life views, as well as their elected representatives, on such an important and complex issue – should be of great concern to anyone who values democratic principles and the freedom of expression.

It speaks to the power of the Liberal propaganda machine that they’ve managed to stick Stephen Harper with the image of being controlling and anti-democratic, when they themselves are just as guilty of it – if not more.
