What party would Jesus belong to?

Someone asked me what I thought of Communism. Being a devout Christian, that person was shocked that they scored higher on Communism than on Conservatism. Isn’t being a Conservative being Christian? I wanted to laugh so hard. I really did.

I wanted to laugh so hard. I really did. Christians do have a political ideology that one would find to be very socialist. In fact, Christians who strive to be very much like Christ should be throwing their support behind Elizabeth May and the Green Party.

In the Bible, as Adam and Eve were exiled, they were told that they would become stewards of the Earth. We are supposed to care for the Earth so that it in itself would take care of us.

Christ washed people’s feet, the sign of being humble. Christ threw out moneychangers for bringing greed into the temple.

The NDP promotes that nobody really is above each other. Prisoners should be given a chance to redeem themselves. The rich shouldn’t go around and flaunt their wealth in an effort to buy their way around.

The poor aren’t deliberately poor, and that if we helped the poor live, survive, then the poor won’t resent us and revolt. The prisoners would be grateful for the help we gave them in jail, to kick the habit and they won’t go back to jail.

Is Conservatism a Christian party? No it isn’t. The Conservatives promote an eye for an eye. They reduce taxes on the rich. They treat people like they’re all potential threats to their power. They help themselves.

Is communism a bad ideal? No it isn’t. It’s a lovely ideal that very much is what Christianity should strive to be. There’s nobody above others. All are worthy to wash the feet of others and nobody is unworthy of being washed.
