Adanac Ski Hill is now closed for the season. What a real gem right in the heart of our city. We all should be proud of this excellently-run facility. All the staff are all polite, courteous and happy young citizens of our community, along with volunteer patrollers.

Together they make your skiing or snowboarding experience a joy that you will remember. On weekdays when the hill is open, various schools have outings with 30 to 98 young schoolchildren.

Many are just beginners, and the instructors teach them on the bunny hill. These instructors soon have them ready to go to the top of the hill in the chair lift. While riding the chairlift up, it’s a joy to watch the instructor, who has approximately eight beginners with him.

It’s amazing to see how quickly he has them learning the basics as he leads them down the hill. Now at break time, you can imagine the noise of all these young ones in the chalet, telling their friends, “Did you see me? I skiied the big hill.”

Now with all the kids and their excitement, they have clothes, lunch bags, water bottles all over the chalet. But come 2 p.m., it’s time for them to end their day on the hill.

The teachers and parents that came with the group have them clean up the chalet, gathering all their gear before they are back on the bus at 2:30 p.m. to return to their school.

As the school bus pulls out, the chalet is now quiet and it is spotless. Everything has been cleaned up, and the kids leave with a great memory of their day on the hill. It’s good to see the young children learning new skills, and the instructors doing a great job, and of course the ski patrollers on the hill keeping everyone safe.

Adanac has had great snow conditions, and the grooming has been as good as it can get. The best-kept secret is that you can buy a season pass at a very good price. So if you only have an hour or two to spare, you can get out doors, enjoy the fresh air and have a great time skiing or snowboarding on this great hill right here in your own backyard.

I want to thank everyone who works on this hill for doing an excellent job making it truly an enjoyable experience.

So if you haven’t skied or snowboarded this hill, do give it a try next year and you will be amazed at how good it is, and it’s in your own backyard.

To the City of Greater Sudbury, this is truly a gem for all to enjoy, and it’s right in the heart of the city. So thanks again.
