I would like to comment on a situation that involved my daughter, Erika, at DanceFest on Monday, April 27. Approximately 20 minutes before she was to perform her group hip-hop routine, she either fainted or had an absence seizure in the back-stage area.

Many people stepped forward to help her before the arrival of Joanne Gervais-Richard and myself. I would have preferred to thank personally the lady who brought a blood-sugar-testing device, dextrose tablets and orange juice. You know who you are, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

To my daughter’s hip-hop crew, you all rock! Your immediate attention to her circumstance probably prevented any long-term damage that may have occurred had you not been aware of what was happening around you.

Thank you all for your team effort.

To Ms. Brenda Marcoux from Happiness is Dancing, who stepped forward to deal with a negative backstage circumstance in a kind, professional fashion, I thank you for your leadership and ability to handle a fragile situation.

Finally to Ashley Burton, founder and artistic director of Arts North, again a big thank you for your concern for Erika’s well-being. You are an inspiration, and a fantastic role model for my daughter, so thank you, thank you, thank you.

If I have forgotten to mention anyone, I apologize profusely, and if you assisted in any way, you have my eternal gratitude.
