Can the Synergy Project attract investors?

Here we go again — same old story, different bus driver. A performing arts centre for only $64 million, folks — that’s about a million more than (former mayor) John Rodriguez’s estimate.

You would think the price would have gone up a little more than that since the last proposal. A state-of-the-art building for that kind of money? I don’t think so, not these days. I wonder if there are any cost overruns that have been figured in. Maybe not, if the city’s planning department and CEO aren’t involved.

If this thing were to really fly, I think the people involved are going to need more information than just the cost. We are the biggest city in the northeast, but that doesn’t mean we’re the richest. If everyone in the North is going to enjoy the centre, then everyone should ante in.

Especially the special interest groups that will benefit the most from this project.
