Maison Vale Hospice hosted its fourth annual KIA Butterflies & Memories event on Sunday, July 19 at Science North.

This year’s event raised $21,000 to support the programs and services offered by the hospice. With more than 550 butterflies released, this was a record year for the KIA Butterflies & Memories event.

During the opening ceremonies, emceed by KiSS FM and Maison Vale Hospice, Léo Lefebvre, member of the MVH board of directors, thanked the participants, volunteers and sponsors of the event. Léo Therrien, executive director of MVH, presented a kitchen dedication plaque in memory of Ivana Atanaskovic for the generous donation from Mika and Marica Atanaskovic.

Nickel Belt MPP France Gélinas participated by reading a beautiful poem about butterflies.

The names of the loved one were read followed by the release of more than 550 butterflies on the Science North grounds.

This release was accompanied by a violin piece from Thomas Little. The event attracted more than 600 participants that gathered to release their butterflies to honour and to remember their loved ones. The famous Sud-Berry bear was also onsite as a new community partnership for the 30th annual Sudbury Blueberry Festival.

The Maison Vale Hospice appreciated the support of our title sponsor, KIA Sudbury Motors and of event sponsors: Central Printers, KFM, KICX FM, KiSS FM, Lockerby Transportation, Northern Life, Science North and Vale.
